Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 Tablespoon pure vanilla extract vanilla bean paste
  • 4 large eggs room temperature
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1-1/2 cups semi-sweet chopped chocolate or chocolate chips
  • sprinkle of sea salt optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F degrees. Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Set aside.

  2. Melt the butter in a large microwavable bowl or over a double boiler.

  3. Add both of the sugars and whisk until combined. Add the cocoa powder, vanilla, eggs, baking powder, and salt and whisk until combined.

  4. Whip batter vigorously (using your whisk or a hand mixer for 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy - this helps to create that crinkly "meringue-ish" top - skip if desired).

  5. Stir in flour and mix until just combined. Fold in chocolate chunks or chips. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top using an offset spatula.

  6. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the brownies have risen and are cooked through. Sprinkle sea salt if desired. Allow to cool completely before cutting.
