Hi there and welcome!
I’m Kelly Kwok, a published cookbook author and the writer, photographer, cook, baker, and recipe developer behind Life Made Sweeter.
Kelly has a background in law but has always been passionate about living a balanced and healthy lifestyle through fitness and diet.
She started Life Made Sweeter back in 2013 and it has grown into a trusted source for healthier, gluten free, grain-free, paleo, low carb, keto and Whole30 recipes, millions of readers each year and over 1 million + combined social followers.
Kelly’s recipes have been published on The Today Show, Food Network, Cooking Light, Better Homes & Gardens and more.

ABOUT KELLY’S JOURNEY
Growing up with two older brothers, I’ve always been fairly active and followed what I thought at the time was a pretty healthy and balanced diet. I ate mostly plant-based protein with lots of fruit and vegetables and very minimal fats.
A year after having my second daughter in 2015, my body started developing signs of various gut and autoimmune issues. I became allergic to many of the foods I grew up eating my entire life. My skin started breaking out in hives all over my neck and ears and I had no energy while my vision started getting very foggy.
After countless doctors’ and hospital visits, I was eventually diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and prescribed a number of pills to take. Not wanting to be a slave to traditional medicine, I started to dig deep and do my own research on how to help improve my health. I realized that many of the foods I thought were healthy, were actually harming and attacking my body.
In December 2016, I started removing all grains, gluten and refined sugar from my diet followed by incorporating several Whole30 rounds. I now follow a mostly dairy free, grain-free, paleo and sometimes lower carb or clean ketogenic diet to help keep my autoimmune health in check and feeling my best.
KELLY’S RECIPES AND COOKBOOK
Because of this lifestyle, most of the newer recipes we share on Life Made Sweeter tend to be grain-free and lower in carbs or include substitutions if you are following a low carb, keto, Whole30 or paleo diet.
Since the rest of Kelly’s family members are not on any specific diet, you will still find many older recipes that DO include gluten and sugar and we are working on including allergen-friendly substitutions for these older recipes. Those recipes include many family favorites with a focus on Asian, Instant Pot, slow cooker and one pot / pan / skillet dishes. Many of these work well for Sunday meal prepping to help take the stress away from that 5 pm dinner rush.
If you’re looking for more traditional Asian recipes, Kelly published her first Slow Cooker Cookbook in November 2016 which was named one of the best cookbooks of 2016 by The Washington Post.
You can find it at: Amazon, Barnes & Noble and all major bookstores as well as more details about what’s inside HERE:
I am a mom of two and married to my high school sweetheart.
I grew up with two foodie parents who both cooked freshly prepared meals almost every evening.
I am also a self-taught baker and got caught with the baking bug shortly after having my son in 2011. He is the reason why life was made sweeter and inspires many of my creations.
- I am a big veggie lover and am always trying to sneak more veggies into my kids and meat-loving husband’s meals
- I adore anything with coconut, lemon, and avocado
- I stay active by practicing yoga & strength training regularly
Before having our kids, my husband and I lived in a large city with a diverse food culture. We also had a chance to travel to many places around the world in Asia, Europe, the Caribbean and across North America so you will see many recipes that have been inspired by the places we have visited.
