Recipe Ingredients
- Frozen Blueberries: Blueberries are a powerhouse of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. They add a burst of flavor and natural sweetness to our clusters while offering numerous health benefits.
- Chia Seeds: These tiny seeds are packed with omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and protein. When mixed with the blueberries, they help create a thick and jam-like consistency while providing an extra nutritional boost. If you prefer not to consume / un-soaked raw chia seeds, you can soak them in 1/2 cup of cold water for 30 minutes and then drain them before adding them to the berries.
- Maple Syrup: We use maple syrup as a sticky liquid sweetener, but feel free to leave it out or use your favorite sweetener. Maple syrup adds a touch of sweetness that balances the tartness of the blueberries, enhancing the overall flavor profile.
- Vanilla Extract: A hint of vanilla extract enhances the taste of the clusters, adding a delightful aroma and depth of flavor.
- Water: Only a small amount of water is needed to adjust the consistency of the mixture. Add more if necessary to achieve the desired thickness.
For the Yogurt Coating:
- Dairy-Free or Regular Yogurt: You have the option to choose between dairy-free or regular yogurt based on your dietary preferences. Opt for a vanilla or plain Greek-style thick yogurt or thick coconut yogurt such as Kite-Hill Greek-style yogurt, Cocojune, Culina or Yoggu Coconut Yogurt. The creamy yogurt coating complements the fruity blueberry jam perfectly, creating a delightful contrast of textures.
How to make Blueberry Yogurt Clusters
- Create the Blueberry Jam:
- In a bowl, combine the frozen blueberries, chia seeds, maple syrup, and vanilla extract.
- Mash the ingredients together using a fork until you achieve a thick jam-like consistency. It may take some time, but be patient—it’s worth it! If needed, let the mixture sit for a while to allow the berries to slightly thaw, making them easier to mash.
- Taste the mixture and adjust the sweetness by adding more sweetener or a bit of water, if desired.
- Form the Clusters:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Using a large spoon, drop a generous spoonful of the blueberry jam onto the parchment paper, forming even circular mounds. Alternatively, you can use your hands to shape them into perfect circles.
- Place the baking sheet in the freezer and let the clusters freeze for 1-2 hours until they become hardened and set.
- Coat the Clusters:
- Once the clusters are almost set, it’s time to give them a luscious yogurt coating.
- Carefully dip one frozen blueberry jam bite into the yogurt, ensuring it is fully coated.
- Return the coated cluster to the baking sheet and repeat the process with the remaining jam bites.
- Place the baking sheet back into the freezer for an additional 10 minutes or until the yogurt coating is set.
- Time to Enjoy!
- Now comes the moment you’ve been waiting for! Take a bite of these delightful Blueberry Yogurt Clusters and relish the harmonious blend of flavors.
- If the clusters are too hard, allow them to thaw for 1-2 minutes before indulging in their creamy goodness.
- For an enticing presentation, slice a cluster in half to reveal its enticing blueberry-filled interior.
Tips for Success
- Use slightly thawed blueberries: It’s easier to mash the blueberries when they have softened slightly. If they’re too hard, you can let them sit for a while or mash in intervals to achieve the desired consistency.
- Adjust sweetness to taste: The sweetness of the blueberries can vary, so taste the mixture and add more sweetener if needed. Remember, everyone’s palate is different, so customize it to suit your preferences.
Storage and Freezer Instructions
- Once the Blueberry Yogurt Clusters are fully set, transfer them to an airtight container or freezer bag.
- They can be stored in the freezer for up to one month, ensuring you have a delicious and healthy treat on hand whenever the craving strikes.
Serving Suggestions
- Enjoy these clusters straight from the freezer for a refreshing and satisfying snack.
- Serve them as a delightful dessert option for guests, showcasing your culinary skills and creativity.
- Add the clusters as a topping to your favorite smoothie bowl or yogurt parfait for an extra burst of flavor and texture.
Blueberry Yogurt Clusters Variations and Substitutions
- Mixed Berry Bites: Swap the frozen blueberries for blackberries, raspberries like these Chocolate Jam Bites, strawberries like these Strawberry Bites, or use a combination of all four for a mixed berry twist.
- Nutty Crunch: For added texture and a nutty twist, sprinkle crushed almonds, walnuts, or granola on top of the clusters before freezing.
- Honey Drizzle: Instead of maple syrup, you can use honey as a natural sweetener. Drizzle a small amount over the blueberry jam for a touch of golden sweetness.
- Chocolate Dipped Clusters: If you’re a chocolate lover, why not dip the clusters in melted dark or semi-sweet chocolate for a decadent treat? Let the clusters harden in the freezer before indulging.

- 2/3 cup frozen blueberries , unthawed or thawed very slightly enough to mash with a fork. Feel free to use raspberries, chopped strawberries or blackberries if preferred.
- 2-3 tsp chia seeds , if you prefer not to consume / un-soaked raw chia seeds, you can soak them in 1/2 cup of cold water for 30 minutes and then drain them before adding them to the berries.
- 2-3 tsp maple syrup , or sticky liquid sweetener of choice (add more to taste depending on preference and how sweet the berries are). Omit if you prefer a no-sugar added option or for Whole30.
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1-2 tsp water , only as needed if the mixture seems too thick
- 1 - 1/2 cups dairy-free or regular vanilla or plain greek-style thick yogurt or thick coconut yogurt (use less or more as needed). We like Kite-Hill Greek-style yogurt, Culina, Cocojune or Yoggu.
- Add the blueberries to a bowl. Add the chia seeds, maple syrup and vanilla. Use a fork to mash together (this may take a while or let the mixture sit for a bit prior to mashing or in the middle of mashing so that it’s easier once the fruit melts) until the mixture resembles a very thick jam (that you can mold into separate circle mounds). Taste and add more sweetener / or water only as needed.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Drop a large spoonful (about 2 tablespoons full or bigger) of jam onto the parchment paper in an even circular mound / shape (can also use hands to form into circle mounds). Place the baking sheet in the freezer and freeze for 1-2 hours, or until hardened and set.
Once the jam bites are almost set, carefully dip one frozen jam bite into the yogurt. Place the coated jam bite back on the baking sheet. Repeat with remaining jam bites. Place the baking sheet in the freezer again for another 10 minutes or until set.
Serve and enjoy (you may have to thaw for 1-2 minutes if the bites are too hard).
