DIY Cold Brew Chai Recipe
Want to take your iced coffee up a notch for fall? This Cold Brew Chai is a fun and healthier twist on the popular Starbucks Iced Chai Tea Latte. It’s easy to make with your favorite cup of cold brew coffee, concentrated chai, and any plant-based milk.
The best part about making your own cold brew latte at home is that you can skip the trip to Starbucks without any fancy coffee maker required!
Now you can enjoy your favorite seasonal drink any time you’re craving it and not just in October or November! Plus it’s dairy-free, refined-sugar-free, vegan, paleo-friendly with low carb, keto and Whole30 options!
What you’ll need:
For the coffee
- Cold brew coffee – you can use our homemade cold brew coffee or your favorite premade brand.
- Vanilla extract – just a splash is all you need to add flavor and make your iced chai latte delicious.
For the Chai Tea
- Chai tea – we like this chai powder but you can also brew your own chai latte using your favorite chai tea bags.
Optional:
- Dairy-free Milk or Dairy-free Creamer – we used unsweetened almond milk (Malk Organics is the creamiest and made without any gums and just 3 ingredients) but you can use any plant-based milk you have on hand. For a dairy-free creamer, we like Nutpods Original.
- Maple syrup – to sweeten things up without any refined sugars. You can use organic agave syrup, yacon syrup, date syrup or any liquid syrup or liquid sweetener you like. Use sugar-free maple syrup, liquid monkfruit or stevia for low carb or keto. Leave out for Whole30 or use homemade date paste.
For serving:
- Glass
- Handful of ice cubes
How to make Cold Brew Chai Latte
- Prepare the cold brew: Make your cold brew coffee or use your favorite premade brand. Stir in vanilla and whisk until combined
- Make the chai tea: In a frothing pitcher or a measuring cup, combine the milk, pumpkin puree, maple syrup, vanilla and pumpkin spice. Turn on the frothing pitcher or use your handeld frother to froth the milk until it reaches a whipped foamy consistency.
- Serve: Add ice to a glass, then fill halfway with coffee, then top with cream and add a sprinkle of pumpkin spice or a dash of cinnamon if desired.
Tips and tricks
- Cold brew: Be sure to use a good quality cold brew concentrate. Make your own by following our guide HERE. You can pick up some cold brew at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s or even your favorite coffee shop.
- Milk or Dairy-free creamer: Choose a milk that will froth well. We like using Malk Organics unsweetened almond milk since it’s thick, creamy and froths up really well. For a dairy-free creamer, we like Nutpods Original.
- Sweetener: We used maple syrup or you can use organic agave syrup, yacon syrup, date syrup or any liquid syrup or liquid sweetener you like. Use sugar-free maple syrup, liquid monkfruit or stevia for low carb or keto. Leave out for Whole30 or use homemade date paste.
Tools you’ll need:
- Frothing machine, frothing pitcher or a handheld frother
- Tall glass cup, we like this one
