Whipped feta is an easy appetizer, snack or light lunch that everyone can’t get enough of. It’s so easy to make with just 3 ingredients and we like to top ours with roasted tomatoes or roasted balsamic strawberries but there are tons of amazing toppings you can add to it!
With this versatile dip recipe in your toolbox, you’ll have endless ways to serve it up at any barbecue or party! We like use vegan feta and serve it with grain-free crackers to keep this dish dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan but you can use any bread and feta you have on hand. Depending on the ingredients you use, this recipe can easily accommodate any dietary restrictions you’re working with. It’s time to take your appetizer game to the next level!
Recipe Ingredients
First Way with Balsamic Strawberries:
- Fresh strawberries: Washed, stems removed
- Balsamic vinegar: Use a high-quality brand for the best flavor.
- Maple syrup: Or preferred sticky liquid sweetener of choice.
- Fine sea salt: To taste.
- Freshly cracked black pepper: To taste plus more for garnish.
For the Creamy Whipped Feta Dip:
- Vegan feta cheese: We like Violife. Regular feta works too if not dairy-free.
- Dairy-free greek-style yogurt: We like Kite Hill. Regular plain greek yogurt works too.
- Fresh lemon juice: To brighten up the creamy feta dip.
For Garnish:
- Freshly chopped basil: For flavor and garnish.
- Freshly finely chopped mint: Adds freshness and for garnish.
- Candied or toasted pecans: Roughly chopped for some crunch.
Second Way with the Roasted Tomatoes
- Avocado oil: Or olive oil for roasting.
- Salt: Fine sea salt to taste
- Black pepper: Freshly cracked, to taste.
- Garlic powder: For flavor.
- Dried oregano: You’ll need 1/4 teaspoon.
For the Creamy Whipped Feta Dip:
- Vegan feta cheese: We like Violife. Regular feta works too if not dairy-free.
- Dairy-free greek-style yogurt: We like Kite Hill or this coconut yogurt from Culina. Regular plain greek yogurt works too.
- Fresh lemon juice: To brighten up the creamy feta dip.
- Minced Garlic: To add extra flavor.
- Salt: Fine sea salt to taste
- Black pepper: Freshly cracked, to taste.
For Garnish:
- Freshly chopped basil: For flavor and garnish.
- Freshly finely chopped mint: Adds freshness and for garnish.
- Pistachios: Roughly chopped.
- Good quality extra-virgin olive oil: To finish.
How to make Whipped Feta with Balsamic Strawberries
- Cut the strawberries: Slice small berries into halves and medium berries into quarters.
- Make the Balsamic Reduction and Cook the Strawberries: In a medium saucepan combine maple syrup and balsamic vinegar and whisk over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until reduced. Stir in the strawberries and cook for 2-3 minutes, until softened. Season with salt and black pepper, to taste. Remove from heat and allow to cool for about 10 minutes or chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
- Blend the Feta: Meanwhile, make the whipped feta by adding the feta cheese, yogurt, salt, black pepper and lemon juice to a food processor.
- Blend the Feta: Blend for 2-3 minutes or until smooth, while scraping down the sides periodically with a spatula as needed. Transfer the dip to a shallow plate or a bowl and chill in the fridge for about 10-20 minutes to firm up slightly or until ready to serve.
- Top with Balsamic Strawberries: Once ready, top with strawberries and garnish with freshly chopped basil, mint and pecans plus a drizzle of maple syrup, if desired.
- Serve and enjoy: Serve with an assortment of toasted baguette slices and crostini or crackers on the platter. Spread some whipped feta on the toasted baguette and top with some of the strawberry mixture.
Whipped Feta With Roasted Tomatoes
- Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Baking Sheet: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Season the Tomatoes: Place the cherry tomatoes on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with oil and season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder and oregano. Toss to coat well then spread out evenly on the baking sheet in a single layer. Transfer the baking sheet to the oven and roast for 25-30 minutes or until the tomatoes are soft and begin to burst.
- Make the Whipped Feta: Meanwhile, make the whipped feta by adding the feta cheese, yogurt, garlic, salt, black pepper and lemon juice to a food processor. Blend for 2-3 minutes or until smooth, while scraping down the sides periodically with a spatula as needed. Transfer the dip to a shallow plate or a bowl or chill in the fridge for about 10-20 minutes to firm up slightly or until ready to serve.
- Top with Roasted Tomatoes: Once ready, top with the roasted cherry tomatoes and sprinkle with freshly chopped basil, mint, red pepper flakes, pistachios and a drizzle of good quality extra-virgin olive oil. Serve with toasted crusty bread / baguettes for dipping.
