Your Guide to Keto Foods at Costco
Whether you’re new to keto or a seasoned pro, you’re likely always on the lookout for keto friendly foods whenever you’re shopping. The good news is Costco has got plenty.

What is Keto?
The ketogenic diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet. It involves drastically reducing your intake of carbs by staying under 20-50 net carbs per day and replacing them with fat. This change leads to the metabolic state called ketosis.
If you’re new to keto, you’re probably wondering what foods you can and can’t eat. Get started by checking out our comprehensive Ketogenic Diet Guide that gives you a breakdown of which fats, protein, vegetables and fruit work best while on a keto diet.
What Makes Costco Unique?
Costco is a membership warehouse club. There is no free membership option, day pass, guest pass, or trial period. What this means for customers is that you will need a membership to shop here regularly. There are four different tiers of membership so there is likely one that will fit your needs. However, if you are undecided as to whether or not joining is right for you, you can enter and look around without showing a membership card.
At Costco, they are dedicated to bringing their customers the best possible price and quality in products. For instance, Costco prices can commonly be anywhere from 15-50% lower than the prices found at Trader Joe’s.

Costco Secret Shopping Tips
Depending on where you live, your Whole30 Costco options might vary a bit as each Costco location doesn’t always stock the same products.
- Costco is BYOB – bring your own bags – Costco does not provide them at checkout.
- You can get a whole lot more than food at Costco. They have seasonal goods, electronics, and even clothing.
- Items you purchase are often bulk volume – sometimes the quantities are so large you may not be able to finish before the food goes bad. You can always split bulk items with friends!
- Weekday shopping is always easier and less crowded.
- Items that end in $.97 are on clearance.

Fresh Produce
Costco offers tons of organic produce options. They come in such large quantities that it can be hard to use it all before it goes bad. Be careful with fruits, even without added sugar, the natural sugar can send you out of ketosis. So, be aware of your serving size.
These are some of my favorite organic produce options at Costco:
- Mixed Greens
- Organic Baby Spinach
- Cauliflower
- Broccoli Florets
- Bell Peppers
- Mushrooms
- Avocados
- Mixed greens
- Asparagus
- Berries – Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries
Frozen foods
If you’re cooking for a smaller amount of produce, Costco might not be the best place to grab your keto fruits and veggies. Produce comes in such large quantities it may go bad before you can use it unless you cook it ahead of time. Frozen fruits and vegetables are a great way to still shop for your keto produce at Costco. You can find some great keto-friendly frozen produce, as long as there are no additives like sugar. Here are my top picks:
- Frozen Avocado Chunks – love how convenient these are – great for adding into smoothies
- Frozen Organic Raspberries
- Wild Blueberries
- Organic Strawberries
- Frozen broccoli, frozen cauliflower and frozen Brussels sprouts
- Riced Cauliflower – an easy low carb and Whole30 side and perfect for smoothies or using in stir-fries
Meat
There are many keto-options when it comes to protein at Costco.
We love to use organic meat such as chicken breasts, chicken thighs, grass fed steak, pork, turkey, or ground meats like ground beef and ground turkey.
Also seafood is a great keto protein option, such as wild-caught salmon, shrimp, cod, halibut, scallops from sustainable sources.
If you are looking for something pre-prepared, check out these fabulous and flavorful Keto options.
- Aidells Chicken and Apple Sausage
- Kirkland Signature Smoked Pulled Pork
- smoked salmon
- frozen chicken wings
Keto Snacks
When snacking on keto, you’re going to want to steer away from any type of chips. A nice alternative is nuts. And of course, all the cheese you can eat. You can also cook up some yummy keto friendly dips and use your veggies for dipping.
Kirklands Signature mixed nuts
- Nuts:
- Kirkland Signature Pecans, Kirkland Signature Dry Roasted Almonds, Walnuts, Macadamia Nuts, Walnuts, Cashews
- Seeds:
- Pumpkin Seeds, Sunflower Seeds
- Nature’s Intent Organic Chia Seeds
- Nut Butters and Seeds Butters such as Peanut Butter, Almond Butter, Cashew Butter, Sunflower Seed Butter or Pumpkin Seed Butter are all great sources of healthy fats
- Cheese Crisps such as Whisps
If you’re craving something outside the flavor profile of fruit and nuts, you may want to grab some of these snacks:
- Wholly Guacamole (great for dipping your veggies in)
- Perrier or other sparkling water brands such as La Croix or Spindrift
Dairy
We all know a big part of keto is the cheese! Costco has an abundant cheese selection. You’ll be able to easily find your favorite sliced cheese, string cheese, shredded cheese, and blocks of cheese:
- Spirella meat wrapped cheeses
- Parmesan
- Feta
- Cheddar
You can also grab some heavy whipping cream, Kerry Gold butter, and eggs in bulk!
Healthy and Organic Doesn’t Mean Keto Friendly. Costco Foods to Avoid for Keto:
Healthy and organic doesn’t necessarily translate to keto friendly. Here are some things that appear healthy and tempting but may send you out of ketosis.
Dried and frozen tropical fruit – These can be super high in added sugar and carbs
Cauliflower or Broccoli Crust Pizza – Even though they may appear to be a lower carb option, most frozen cauliflower or broccoli crusts contain high carb flours.
If you’re really in the mood for pizza, check out our Low Carb Cauliflower Pizza Crust recipe HERE.
Juices and Drinks – Many of these are sweetened with organic sugar, agave or other “healthy” sweeteners. Even though the sweetners are considered healthy, they will have an impact on your blood sugar.
Protein Bars – Many snack bars are marketed as “keto-friendly” but that doesn’t mean they actually are. Inspect the label and you’ll find that many of these products are high in carbs and have a long list of questionable ingredients.
Try these Keto Granola Bars instead, They are made with ingredients you can feel good about.
Tortilla Chips – On the surface, corn tortilla chips may fool you into believing they’re low in carbs. Actually, many of them are made with high carb fillers and sweetened with added sugars that increase the carb count.

THANKS FOR THIS! I WAS THERE YESTERDAY TO PICK UP MY FAVORITE KETO SALTED CARMEL ICE CREAM BARS, 2 NET CARBS, ONLY TO FIND THAT THEY ARE GONE! APPARENTLY THEY ARE CYCLICAL AND MAY BE BACK NEXT SUMMER. BUT TO EASE MY SADNESS I CAME ACROSS MONK FRUIT SWEETENER BY LAKANTO THAT I HAVE NEVER SEEN AT COSTCO BEFORE. TWO GREAT ESSENTIALS TO ADD TO YOUR SHOPPING LISTS!
