An Easy and Mouth-Watering Homemade Granola
Granola is an incredibly versatile food. You can eat a bowl of it with milk for breakfast, munch on it plain as a midday snack, or layer it atop some yogurt with fresh fruit for a dessert parfait.
It also can be pretty pricey, which is why we are a big proponent of making granola at home. And this strawberry chocolate granola is one of our favorite breakfast recipes yet. Strawberries and dark chocolate are a classic combo. So are strawberries and white chocolate. So why not combine them?
That’s right, this crunchy, healthy granola has not one, but two different types of chocolate in it. The end result is a quick and easy recipe that’s sweet and classy, but also highly nutritious.
What You’ll Need
You don’t need too many ingredients to make strawberry granola. Be sure to check out the recipe card at the bottom of the article to find the exact quantities of each ingredient.
- Old fashioned oats
- Shredded coconut
- Slivered almonds
- Coconut sugar – You can also use brown sugar if you prefer.
- Coconut oil
- Maple Syrup – You can use agave, vegan honey or a sticky sugar-free sweetener of choice.
- Vanilla extract – Make sure you’re using 100% pure vanilla extract.
- Dark chocolate chunks or chips: Use a dairy-free variety to keep this recipe completely vegan.
- White chocolate chips
- Freeze-dried strawberries
- Fresh strawberries – These are an optional garnish.
How to Make Strawberry Granola
This is a super simple recipe to make and it takes less than an hour.
- Prep. Preheat your oven to 300F, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix the dry ingredients. Place the oats, shredded coconut, slivered almonds, coconut sugar, and salt in a bowl.
- Add the wet ingredients. In a separate bowl, combine the oil, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients, and mix until everything is combined.
- Bake. Spread the granola across the baking sheet, and press it flat. Bake for 40-45 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through. The granola should be golden brown.
- Cool. Remove the pan from the oven and let the granola cool completely.
- Finish. Once the granola is cool, break it into pieces and combine with the freeze-dried strawberries and the chocolates. Now you’re ready to eat some crunchy strawberry chocolate granola!
Tips for Success
Here are a few tricks for making perfect strawberry chocolate granola.
- Break it into large clusters. We are a big fan of granola in large clusters. To get your granola this way, make sure that you don’t stir the granola while it’s in the oven. After baking, let it cool completely before breaking it up. That will allow the clusters to break off in larger pieces.
- Get a good crunch. You obviously don’t want to over bake and burn this granola, but don’t be scared of baking it for a long time. Everyone loves a good crunch with their granola, so cook it to a deep golden brown before removing it from the oven.
- Serve with fresh fruit. Freeze-dried fruit is great, because it allows you to make a granola recipe that is non-perishable. But nothing compares to fresh fruit. To really amp up the mouth-watering sweet flavors of this strawberry chocolate granola, add fresh fruit when you serve it.
Strawberry Granola Variations
This is a great recipe to play with if you want to try some new flavors. Here are a few easy variations.
- Use different fruits. In addition to, or in place of freeze-dried strawberries, you can try different fruits. Freeze-dried raspberries and blueberries are excellent in this recipe, as are banana chips.
- Try different nuts. I’m a big fan of slivered almonds, but you can use almost any kind of nut in this recipe. Pecans and walnuts in particular go well with the strawberries and chocolate.
- Add chia seeds. Chia seeds are a fun way to bump up the nutritional value of this strawberry chocolate granola. You can also use hemp seeds if you prefer.
How to Store Strawberry Chocolate Granola
Keep your granola in an airtight container in the cupboard, where it will last for up to 1 month. You can also store it in the freezer for up to 6 months.

- 3/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
- 1/2 cup slivered almonds
- 2 tbsp coconut sugar , you can sub with brown sugar or any granulated brown sweetener (such as monk fruit) of choice.
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup coconut oil melted
- 6 tbsp maple syrup , you can substitute with agave, vegan honey or a sticky sugar-free sweetener of choice.
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup dark chocolate chunks or chips , use a dairy-free brand to keep this recipe completely vegan
- 1/4 cup white chocolate chips , use a dairy-free brand to keep this recipe completely vegan (we like Pascha's or Enjoy Life)
- 1/3 cup freeze-dried strawberries
- 1/2 cup fresh strawberries
- Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the oats, coconut, almonds, coconut sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted coconut oil, honey and vanilla extract. Pour over oat mixture and stir until just combined and moistened.
- Spread granola in an even layer onto the prepared baking sheet and pat down flat with a spatula or your clean hands.
- Bake in preheated oven for 40 – 45 minutes or until golden brown, rotating the pan halfway through. (Do NOT stir granola while baking).
- Remove pan from oven and allow granola to cool completely.
- Once cool, break granola into clusters and transfer to an airtight container. Stir in freeze-dried strawberries and all the chocolate chips.
- Serve with yogurt, fresh strawberries or fruit of your choice.
