WHY MAKE HOMEMADE CASHEW BUTTER?

Plus, this creamy cashew butter recipe tastes better and it’s cheaper to make than most natural cashew butter brands.
Not a fan of smooth cashew butter? No problem! You can easily make your own crunchy cashew butter using your blender in even less time by leaving a few chunks.
Switch up the flavors with what you have in your pantry.
And depending on what you add, this creamy nut butter is also gluten free, sugar free, paleo and can fit into a low carb keto diet.
THINGS YOU NEED FOR THE BEST CASHEW BUTTER RECIPE:
EQUIPMENT:
INGREDIENTS;
- cashew (I prefer roasting the nuts or buying pre-roasted cashews since it helps give you a more flavorful cashew butter)
OPTIONAL ADD-INS:
- a pinch of salt, helps to bring out the flavors
- SWEETENER OF CHOICE: honey, coconut sugar, monk fruit sweetener, erythritol, maple syrup etc.
- SPICES: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, pumpkin pie spice – get as creative as you like
- OIL: coconut oil or MCT oil – if you’re trying to increase fats in your macros
HOW TO MAKE CASHEW BUTTER:
- ROAST CASHEWS: For more flavor, roast the cashews before blending. Roasting also helps the nuts to blend up quicker. Be sure to allow the nuts to cool down before processing otherwise, the concentrated oils may cause your blender or food processor to overheat.
- ADD NUTS TO A HIGH-SPEED BLENDER OR A FOOD PROCESSOR: Add the roasted cashews to a high-speed blender or a food processor or blender. If you make a lot of your own cashew butter or other nut butters, investing in a high-speed blender like a Vitamix can save you a lot of time since it works much faster.
- PROCESS: You’ll notice that the nuts will go through various stages before it turns to smooth and creamy nut butter.
- CRUMBY TEXTURE: First, you’ll notice that the nuts will look like crumbs.
- CLUMPING INTO A BALL: then they’ll start clumping up into a ball.
- SANDY / GRITTY PASTE: Keep processing and the clump will break down and start to turn into a gritty paste.
- CREAMY: Finally, the nut butter will get smooth and spreadable and you’ll end up with creamy homemade cashew butter.
WHAT CAN YOU USE HOMEMADE NUT BUTTER FOR?
Homemade nut butter is great for:
- drizzling some over a bowl of oatmeal
- add a spoonful to your smoothies
- spread on your morning toast
- Make Fat Bombs
- enjoy as a snack with some apples
- or by the spoonful straight out of the jar or container
WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE A FOOD PROCESSOR, CAN I USE A REGULAR BLENDER?
I’m afraid not and highly recommend using a high-speed blender like a Vitamix or a food processor. You may end up burning out the motor on a regular blender.
For smaller batches, I’ll use a smaller food processor like this one.
For larger batches, I always use my handy Vitamix because it works like a dream when it comes turning nuts into a creamy, drippy butter in like, 3 minutes flat.
A food processor takes quite a bit longer to process versus a Vitamix depending on the strength and size of your machine.
HOW TO STORE CASHEW BUTTER:
To store homemade nut butter, simply transfer to an airtight container or a glass jar with a lid and store in the refrigerator.
HOW LONG CAN YOU STORE HOMEMADE NUT BUTTER FOR?
Homemade cashew butter will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
HOW MANY NUTS DO I NEED?
I recommend making smaller batches to start off with so they are easier to blend or process if you aren’t familiar with the process. Start with 2 cups of dry roasted nuts and then once you get a feel for the process and know how much your machine can handle, you can increase the amount.
Two cups of roasted nuts yields about 1 cup of nut butter.
CAN I HAVE CASHEW BUTTER ON KETO?
You can have nut butters on keto but it’s important to watch the amount you have. Nut butters can be high in healthy fats as well as carbs so they can add up quickly if you are not careful with your servings.
HOW MANY CARBS ARE IN CASHEW BUTTER?
The macros for one tablespoon serving:
- 98 calories
- 5g Net Carbs
- 3g Protein
- 8g Fat
- 1g Sugar
