Blueberry Pineapple Green Detox Smoothie + Blendtec Giveaway!

Blueberry Pineapple Green Detox Smoothie - Life made Sweeter.jpg

A refreshing and nutritious smoothie with blueberries, pineapple, flaxseed meal, chia seeds and ginger.

It’s been a busy and hot summer so we’ve been keeping cool with lots of frozen treats, no-bake goodies, salads and grilling most of our meals outside.

Smoothies have also made their way back into our daily morning routine after a hiatus during the cold winter we had.

I love making green smoothies since they are an easy and tasty way to get the hubs and my lil guy to consume more veggies and fruit.

They are also great for detoxing after a weekend of indulging or fending off germs when you start to feel those first signs of getting sick.

It’s so easy to sneak some spinach or kale into these without my guys noticing that they are drinking their greens.

You would think that after years of my veggie sneakiness, the hubs would be used to drinking super green monster shakes but dude – he is ONE stubborn cookie.

If the smoothie shows any hint of green, he won’t touch it.

So I’ve had to come up with a few variations just for him and anyone on team #wontdrinkanythinggreen.

This one has no added sugar and is packed with frozen blueberries, fresh pineapple chunks, lemon juice, flaxseed meal, chia seeds, ginger root, ground cinnamon and turmeric.

For the greens, I usually alternate between baby spinach or kale but I used baby spinach this time.

Sometimes I even like to toss in some fresh parsley or mint for a refreshing and cool flavor.

If you use a fresh pineapple that is really ripe, the smoothie will be sweet enough that you won’t need to add any honey or sugar.  You can definitely add any sweetener or your choice if you find this not sweet enough for you though.

Smoothies are awesome since you can customize them whatever way you like.

If you wanted to use fresh blueberries instead, just make sure to add ice or even toss in a frozen banana for a thicker smoothie. And instead of water, feel free to add juice or milk of your choice.

Just toss all the ingredients into your blender and whirl away!

Blueberry Pineapple Green Detox Smoothie

This is a refreshing smoothie with blueberry, pineapple, chia seeds and ginger. Perfect as a snack, breakfast, after a workout, or anytime you need a detox or pick me up!
Yields: 2 servings
Ingredients
  • * 1 cup baby spinach or can use baby kale, see notes below
  • * 1 cup *fresh really ripe pineapple, cored and cut into chunks
  • * ½ cup plain Greek yogurt (I used non-fat)
  • * 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
  • * dash of turmeric
  • * 1-2 teaspoons of chia seeds, flaxseed meal or both
  • * 1 small knob the size of a quarter of fresh ginger root
  • * juice from ½ lemon
  • * ½ cup water, milk or juice (I used water)
  • * 2 cups *frozen blueberries
Instructions
  1. Place all the ingredients in your high speed blender in the order as they appear.
  2. Blend on high until completely smooth or until desired consistency is reached. Feel free to add more or less water depending on your preference.
Notes
If you are using a fresh ripe pineapple, you may not need to add any extra sweeteners like honey or sugar. Feel free to add honey or agave nectar if you find this not sweet enough for you.
For a thicker smoothie, you can add ice or a frozen banana
If you decide to use fresh blueberries, make sure to add ice or a frozen banana for a thicker consistency
* If you don't mind the green color, feel free to add more spinach or kale into your smoothie. When I'm making the smoothie just for myself and not my husband who isn't a fan of the green color, I usually add at least a cup or more of baby spinach.

I have not done smoothies but you are totally convincing me, Kelly! This sounds healthy, tasty, and easy! Great giveaway, too. Would you believe I only bought a blender (a basic one) a year or so ago? Can’t live w/o it now since I make frappucinos with it. Need to get on the smoothies! Have a lovely week!

Hi Kelly – I like the sound of this smoothie and wow, do I need a new blender! I think my 35 year old blender would be pretty happy to be retired. :) Thanks so much for the givewaway! Hope you had a great weekend and happy Monday!

The first smoothie I would make is a strawberry, banana and blueberry smoothie mixed with a lot of vanilla frozen yogurt.

I’ve never tried the combination of pineapple and blueberry, but it sounds scrumptious! My first smoothie would be one with berries for sure!

Kelly – you have snuck in so much goodness into this smoothie – love your addition of turmeric – I use it often in cooking but never thought to add it to a smoothie – BRILLIANT idea lady!
And what a fabulous giveaway! I have been on the fence about a blender/food processor for awhile – in my hunting, I have not looked into a Blendtec – thanks for the headsup!

Bananas are green smoothies best friend! They make it sweet and creamy without dairy. Blueberries are also awesome for covering up green-ness for those on team #nogreen :) The cinnamon and turmeric sound amazing!

I love using frozen fruit in smoothies like you said you don’t need to add ice! Don’t worry I have the same issue with my fella he is not into veggies in his drink so I sneak some in when he is not’t looking… :D The things we have to do!

I use my cheap store glass blender all the time. I’ve gone through 3 in 5 years. I think my salsas burn out the motor. I want to try your detox smoothie. I’ve never added ginger before, but I’m excited to try it.

I’m sorry I’ve been missing lately. I’ve missed your beautiful, delicious recipes and you, Kelly. I hope you have a great week! ♡

Hi Chastity, no need to apologize sweetie, I completely understand. I’ve been missing a lot too. It’s been tough keeping up with blogging for me with the new baby and my 3 year old starting to show a feisty personality lol. And especially now that summer is here and everybody would rather be outside.
I’ve missed reading all your articles that are always so well written and bring a smile to my face too. You are doing a great job mama and I totally understand that family time and real life commitments come first :) Hope you have an amazing week *hugs*

I’ve heard nothing but great things about this blender, and seeing how perfectly smooth and delicious your smoothie looks, it’s obvious they weren’t lying :) We’re huge fans of pineapple and bloobas (blueberries in two year old speak) so this sounds like a great combination!

  12. says

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE blueberries! One thing I’ve been missing a lot while I’m in Japan… blueberries are so expensive here that I won’t be able to afford to make blueberry smoothies (lol). I can’t wait to go back and make this smoothie. I haven’t combined blueberries and pineapples yet! Looking forward to tasting it!

Aw, I miss the giveaway! Looks like a great one to participate. The last few weeks have been crazy and I’m currently in Turin at the moment. Blueberries & pineapples are so good together including chia seeds and fresh ginger root. My boy loves his smoothies spicy with lots of ginger root. Have you tried adding coconut water instead of ‘water’, it tastes amazing in smoothies! Wishing you a wonderful weekend, my dear! x ❤
